The company gets behind the BD Live technology.

Washington, D.C. (June 25, 2008) -- Sony said this week that all of its future Blu-ray discs will have BD Live interactive features, according to Video Business.

BD Live is a new technology that enables owners of later model Blu-ray players to download content over the Internet.

According to Video Business, Sony says that BD Live became standard in its Blu-ray discs starting with last week's release of Men in Black.

The company said the range of ITV features will vary from release to release, but all discs will would include downloadable trailers and the capacity to access features previously downloaded on BD Live players.

Rich Marty, Sony's vice president of new business development, said this week at the Home Media Expo that viewer reaction to the company's first BD live releases (The Sixth Day and Walk Hard) has been encouraging.

“We have seen a great response so far,” said Marty. “Twenty percent of people who bought the titles are activating BD Live, and of that 20 percent, 75 percent went and downloaded something from the discs. There is an appetite for this.”

Saying that BD Live is in its infancy, Marty added that Sony is developing even more innovative ITV features.
“We are in the early days of BD Live, and this is just a taste of what the technology can do,” he said.
