If you have this problem and you find yourself outside of your warrenty period there is a solution. this requires a jailbroken iphone. Open cydia and search for an app called wififofum. This app when installed finds all networks in your area and will allow your phone to connect up even though the built in iphones wifi finder doesn't see any. Easy solution which doesn't seem to be on very many other forums right now, At least not that i could find and i looked for good period of time.
