I'm a fan of Ubuntu for everyday computing. For my high-end PC I enjoy Kubuntu and CentOS.
When it comes to web servers you cant go wrong with CentOS :)
I've been testing the Ubuntu among other distros and I like it very much, and it is to me one of the most intensive as well as user friendly Linux Distros available today, and if you are into Education and or just learn, then your are in for a world of info at you fingertips, After you get to know your way aroung this OS, you'll find ways to download many free software programs and Packages, ranging from pre-school to science and phisics!
The Basic program comes in the iso format (Aproximate 700MB in size, but upgrades the system after install with all other files need...Selectable by you), that allows you to run it side by side with Windows OS, or you can partion from boot up what space you want to alicate to the distro, you will have the chose i=of boot from Ubuntu or Windows from your PC startup.
Note like most Linux distro's it will not load up all posible hardware drivers, but your will have the option to search and install the latest Ubuntu certified drivers and install through the OS package downloader, by a simple seacrh>Same goes for wireless and other drivers.
Great Product!

Max

For my DEC Alpha boxes, SuSE 7.2 is my flavour, for my regular PCs Ubuntu 9.04/9.10 are my faves. I tried to go with the 10.04LTS, but I am having problems streaming videos from a site called hxxp://www.bada.us which is a necessity for me.
The videos tend to stutter and cause screen problems regardless of the flash player or codec I have tried.
