Only Blu-ray Disc remains in the standard 1920AiA1080 format and became dominant in the disc player and video disc market. However, due to the lack of Blu-ray Disc sources in China's market, Blu-ray Disc players sold by Sony, Panasonic, and Pioneer attract few buyers in the China market.

This hurdle will soon be cleared. Tootoo.com learned from the Blu-ray Disc Association Press Conference that Shanghai Epic Music Entertainment Company Ltd. will start producing Blu-ray Discs in China's mainland. The company's workshop extension project in Shanghai is almost completed. The modified workshop will have 13,000 square meters, and Blu-ray Disc production will commnece in about December this year.

Meanwhile, Sony, one of the major members in the Blu-ray Disc Association, announced yesterday an attractive promotion on buying Blu-ray Disc players in China, that a gift of reserved- copy Blu-ray video discs will be given. That is, from now on, buyers of BDP- S300 Blu-ray Disc player will receive three reserved-copy Blu-ray movie discs: Kung Fu Hustle, Spider-Man 3 and Open Season.

At present, Blu-ray products have entered a rapid development phase in the Japanese market; Blu-ray disc player sales amount to over 50% of the market- share in Japan's entire disc player market. In the United States, over 11 million Blu-ray movie discs have been sold.

The Blu-ray Disc Association, with 180 renowned member companies, is dedicated to developing and promoting the Blu-ray Disc format. Its Board of Directors comprises 18 member companies including Apple, Dell, Panasonic, Philips, Samsung, Sharp, Sony, Disney, and Warner Bros.

In Europe, America and Japan, Blu-ray Disc players, 5 times clearer than common DVDs, are rapidly substituting traditional DVDs. To speed up the industrial production steps in China, Blu-ray Disc Association has pursued a "good will" policy to the technical standard of China's Independent Intellectual Property Rights, so as to encourage China's native enterprises to actively participate in Blu-ray products' production.

News has come from the Blu-ray Disc Association Press Conference this morning that a BD factory is set to launch in China this December and that the production output will end any shortages that the Asian market has been seeing.

The leading Blu-ray Disc player makers Sony, Panasonic and Pioneer, have each had slow sales, especially in China but this new factory should lead to strong growth over the next few quarters. The Shanghai Epic Music Entertainment Company Ltd. "will produce the high-capacity media storage discs at an 140,000 square foot expansion to its factory in Shanghai." Discs will go into production as soon as December.

Sony for one, will begin selling its players with more incentives until the new factory is up and running selling the BDP-S300 player with three Blu-ray DVDs, including Kung Fu Hustle, Spider-Man 3 and Open Season.

Over the next few years, Blu-ray sales are expected to explode in China, giving much needed profits to the studios that have backed the format.

In Japan, it has been reported that Blu-ray disc players have over 50 percent of market share among all new disc player sales.
